Senior Manufacturing Engineer
Santa Ana, California, United States
Job Description
Job Title: Senior Manufacturing Engineer
Company: Ibis Industries, Inc.
Location: Santa Ana, CA (100% onsite)
Job Type: Full-time
Schedule: Monday–Friday, onsite
Base Salary: $140,000–$170,000 per year
About Ibis Industries
Founded in early 2025, Ibis Industries, Inc. serves as a dedicated manufacturing partner, leveraging its intelligent automation platform to bring products to market with precision and speed. The company delivers advanced manufacturing for technologies that are changing the world.
The Role
Ibis is growing fast, moving various products from NPI into rate production for Aerospace, Defense, and Industrial clients, and this role owns how our floor scales: process, yield, rate, and new line bring-up across electronic box builds, wire harnesses, and large system integrations. The scope is as big as you want to make it. We’re looking for people who look at the state of the art and think, “I can do better,” and then go do it.
A Day on the Floor
Most of your day is spent on the floor, not at a desk. You’ll walk the line with technicians, time builds, and figure out which steps can be deleted or simplified. You’ll stand up a fixture in the morning and review a work instruction redline in the afternoon. And you’ll be the person customers want in the room when a design needs to change before it can scale.
In Your First 6–12 Months
- Bring up new production lines from first build to customer rate.
- Establish baseline metrics (first-pass yield, scrap/rework, cycle time) on our core builds, then measurably improve them.
- Elevate the Ibis standard for work instructions, first articles, and ECO change control under our AS9100D system.
- Ship at least one automation project with our in-house automation team that measurably increases rate or repeatability.
- Build a capacity model and floor layout plan that shows how we hit the next level of output.
Key Responsibilities
- Own production scale-up: capacity planning, line balancing, takt time, and floor layout.
- Lead new line bring-up end to end: process flow, fixturing and tooling, equipment and automation selection, staffing and training, and rate readiness reviews.
- Drive yield and quality: track metrics, lead root cause and corrective action, and implement process controls (PFMEA, control plans, in-process inspection).
- Give customers DFM/DFA feedback during NPI so designs are ready to scale before they reach the floor.
- Partner with Supply Chain, Quality, Program Management, and leadership on make/buy, vendor capability, and schedules.
- Mentor engineers and technicians; review their process plans and documentation.
Required Qualifications
- Driven to make things better across the whole manufacturing life cycle, from RFQ to inventory, kitting, build, inspection and FAT, and shipping. You see a broken handoff anywhere in that chain as your problem to fix.
- 5+ years in manufacturing engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience, including taking electromechanical hardware from NPI to rate production.
- A track record of bringing up a new production line or significantly increasing output and yield on an existing one.
- You’ve personally built hardware (harnessing, assembly, fabrication, machining, or similar) and are comfortable on the floor most of the day.
- B.S. in engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Strong command of LEAN, line balancing, process control, root cause analysis, and configuration/change management (CCB, ECOs, effectivity).
- Experience with wire harness, electronic box build, and/or large-assembly integration.
- Clear communicator with customers, technicians, and executives; able to prioritize across multiple programs without close supervision.
- This role requires access to ITAR-controlled technical data, so you must be a U.S. Person as defined by ITAR: a U.S. citizen or national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
- Ability to work 100% onsite in Santa Ana, CA, and to stand and work directly with hardware for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in an AS9100 contract manufacturing environment.
- Hands-on experience with CAD, MES/ERP systems, and deploying factory automation.
- Data analysis with Excel, SQL, or Python.
- Familiarity with IPC/WHMA-A-620 and J-STD-001.
Benefits
- Healthcare: Medical, dental, and vision coverage
- Equity: Stock options included in full-time offers
- Time Off: Unlimited PTO
- Holidays: Generous holiday calendar
- Retirement: 401(k)
